Kit de reparo do DNA é identificado por pesquisadores

Pesquisadores da Universidade Yale, nos EUA, identificaram os principais mecanismos usados pelo organismo para reparar rupturas nas cadeias de DNA. As descobertas têm importantes implicações para compreensão de doenças como o câncer.

Os cromossomos sofrem constantemente ataques de ameaças ambientais como a radiação. Estes ataques podem provocar danos nas fitas de DNA. Se estas rupturas não forem consertadas, o problema pode evoluir para o desenvolvimento de tumores.

A equipe de Yale identificou dez proteínas cruciais envolvidas no processo, mostrando como elas interagem para iniciar a reparação das rupturas. Os resultados do trabalho serão publicados na edição de 02 de setembro da Nature.

“Precisou de um trabalho de campo de 20 anos para chegar a este ponto, e este artigo abre o caminho para que possamos esclarecer o mecanismo detalhado do processo de reparação de quebrar e certamente nos manter ocupados por muitos anos”, diz Patrick Sung, principal autor do artigo. “Isso tem grande relevância para a pesquisa do câncer, porque quando este caminho não está operando, o câncer irá surgir”.

Muitos trabalhos já identificaram genes envolvidos na reparação da quebra do cromossomo, ajudando os pesquisadores no trabalho em questão. Agora, a equipe conseguiu purificar as proteínas e estudas papéis individuais do processo. “Agora somos capazes de fazer perguntas muito detalhas sobre esses mecanismos”, ressalta Sung.
